Mark Langford Photography

It all started in 1972, when Mark Langford’s mom brought home a 35mm SLR camera as a Christmas present to herself. Within moments, Mark “borrowed” the camera and his life-long love of photography began. By the time Mark was a senior at John Marshall High School, in 1976, he was not only writing and photographing for his school newspaper, The Rampage, he was also working part time for the Citizen News; a west side neighborhood newspaper. Mark spent almost every weekend of his senior year photographing sporting events for four high schools and shooting feature photos of neighborhood newsmakers.

After high school, Mark attended UTSA and continued working for the newspaper, as he waited to transfer to Brooks Photography Institute in Santa Barbara, CA. Besides working for the newspaper, Mark interned for a local commercial photographer, Swain Edens, and quickly discovered that doing photography for advertising and businesses was more to his liking.

While at Brooks, Mark took a wide range of classes including; portraiture, motion picture production, slide show production, architectural and studio photography. All of these classes have been important in helping Mark tackle a wide range of assignments since graduating from Brooks with a BA degree in 1980. Within weeks of graduation, Mark began working for Zintgraff Photographers, a long time commercial photography studio in San Antonio. In 1984, Mark opened “Infinite Images” at the age of 26. Mark’s first studio was located in Leon Valley and it was there that he continued pursuing commercial photographic work for local and national agencies and businesses.

Soon after moving to a new downtown studio location in the early 90’s, Mark changed his studio name to “Mark Langford Photography”, (www.mlphoto.com), and shot his first San Antonio book project called, San Antonio, Portrait of the Fiesta City, with writers Gerald Lair and Suzanna Nawrocki. Fiesta City lead to five more books on San Antonio. It also provided Mark a new opportunity to sell his work as stock photography. Mark scanned his book images and developed one of the earliest local websites (www.mystockphotos.com) that allows people to purchase photographs online.

Nowadays, Mark Langford uses the latest digital equipment to shoot for businesses, editorial projects and ad agencies throughout the world.  He is author of several blogs, including a weather blog (www.myweatherpage.com) that many of his friends and clients use to check his daily weather forecasts and observations.  Mark is past local president of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), proud father of Aubrey and Kathleen, and husband to Jennifer Langford, a NISD high school librarian. He has a pet tortoise named “Curious”, who has been his pet for over 43 years.  In his spare time, Mark enjoys gardening, storm chasing, bike riding, studying meteorology, playing ping-pong, writing fiction and composing songs.
